RALEIGH, N.C., Oct. 19, 2007 - USDA Farm Service Agency Administrator Teresa Lasseter today announced the death of 90 year old FSA employee Harold "Bruno"
Mangum, who held FSA's distinction as the agency's longest-serving federal employee. Mangum began work for the Department of Agriculture June 9, 1936.

"Bruno Mangum was a legend throughout FSA. When people wanted a history lesson about the agency and how it has changed, Bruno's name always came up," said
Administrator Lasseter. "Bruno served his country and especially the farmers in North Carolina well for the past 71 years. His length of service was a remarkable
achievement and testimony to his commitment. His cooperation with fellow employees in Raleigh was exemplary."

Mangum fought illnesses for the past year, but had used only a fraction of his 6,000 hours of accumulated sick time.

His most gratifying job, Mangum said, was providing soil conservation help that enabled North Carolina farmers to preserve their land for later generations. In later
years, Mangum worked at the state FSA office in his hometown of Raleigh.

In 1935, Bruno Mangum was a member of the Broughton High School, Raleigh, N.C., state championship teams for football, basketball and baseball. The school
inducted Mangum into its sports hall of fame.

Mangum died Thursday morning Oct. 18, 2007. He was born Dec. 18, 1916
